Springs are water resources that have long been used by the community since ancient times. Gunungpati District is one of the areas in Indonesia with quite a lot of spring potential, but has potential threats due to changes in land cover. Therefore, this study will map land cover and identify local wisdom in one of the areas of Gunungpati District, namely Pakintelan Village, the key area of this study is Jurang Springs in Pakintelan Village. Land cover mapping uses satellite imagery from the NICFI Basemap with visual interpretation. To identify local wisdom, this study uses literature studies, observations and in-depth interviews. The mapping results show that Pakintelan Village, which is the location of Jurang Springs, has land cover change. The change in land cover is dominated by mixed garden to settlement, but the change in land cover does not occur in the spring buffer zone. For local wisdom in Jurang Springs, it includes the configuration of the five springs associated with vegetation and traditions carried out at the spring location such as rasulan, sedekah bumi, and penjamasan. All forms of local wisdom aim to maintain and preserve the environment around Jurang Springs. To further preserve water resources and springs, the government needs preventive efforts such as spatial planning policies. © Published under licence by IOP Publishing Ltd.
