Abstract

Parliamentary Select Committees (PSC s) are vital as an effective mechanism to exercise checks and balances on the executive. Nevertheless, the system in the Malaysian Parliament during 2018-2021 is arguably inadequate to scrutinize the executive. The article argues that there is a lack of recognition of the role that psc can play in the legislative business. After the 14th General Election (2018), there has been a compelling move to rejuvenate and strengthen the psc in the Malaysian Parliament. Despite the Malaysian Parliament being established over six decades ago, psc implementation in Malaysia still needs further improvements. They are pertinent in creating a more transparent and balanced psc in the Malaysian Parliament. © 2025 Muhamad Sayuti Hassan et al.,. Published with license by Koninklijke Brill BV.
