Indonesia's annual waste generation is expected to continue to increase in line with economic development. The existence of waste has a negative impact on environmental quality. Improper waste management and low public awareness of protecting the environment can cause serious pollution and disrupt public health. This study aims to analyze the influence of economic factors on environmental quality in terms of annual waste generation in 34 Indonesian provinces from 2019 to 2022. This study uses the Error Correction Model (ECM) panel data regression analysis method. The results showed that there is a positive and significant influence between government expenditure and human development index on annual waste generation Indonesia in the long and short term. The gross regional domestic product shows a positive and significant influence on annual waste generation Indonesia in the long term, while in the short term there is no significant effect. The foreign direct investment is known to have a negative and insignificant influence on annual waste generation Indonesia in both the long and short term. © 2025 Institute of Physics Publishing.
