The most important public health problem in the world today is AIDS, a disease present in almost every country in the world, including Indonesia. Although the number of HIV/AIDS cases in Indonesia varies, data on HIV/AIDS cases in the country is increasing from year by year. Age, gender, and marital status can be risk factors for the transmission of HIV infection. The study aims to describe the characteristics of HIV/AIDS patients among participants of the National Health Insurance (NHI) in Indonesia. This study used quantitative descriptive methods based on secondary data from the BPJS Health Sample Data for 2015-2021. The variables studied included participant characteristics (gender, age, marital status). The results of the study showed that people aged 18 to 45, male and married had the highest frequency of HIV/AIDS diagnoses. More male (63.79%) patients were diagnosed with HIV than female (36.21%). Participants aged 18-45 years had the highest percentage of HIV diagnosis, at 68.99%, and those aged < 18 years had the lowest rate, at 8.3%. For marital status characteristics, participants with married status (48.84%) had a higher HIV diagnosis compared to unmarried (43.85%) and are divorced (7.31%). © 2025 Author(s).
