Abstract

This work explores the vapor-liquid equilibrium (VLE) of methanol and its binary mixtures, delving into the versatility and significance of these combinations. Some of the most studied binary mixtures of methanol are presented, offering valuable insights into their VLE data availability at various temperatures and pressures. The work addresses various aspects, including experimental techniques for VLE measurements at both low and high pressures. The role of VLE in biodiesel production is examined, shedding light on its importance within this specific industrial context. The research concludes by exploring the current and future outlook of VLE for methanol in conjunction with environmentally friendly solvents. This involves an analysis of its equilibrium behavior with ionic liquids, deep eutectic solvents (DESs), natural deep eutectic solvents (NADESs), and polar bio-based and green organic solvents. This comprehensive work contributes to a deeper understanding of the applications and potential advancements in the field of methanol and its binary mixtures. © 2024 Elsevier Inc.
