Development of Group Theory Textbook with Podcast Learning which Connected to the School Mathematics Content and Critical Thinking Skills

Abstract

Group theory is an essential subject in college. There needs to be media to facilitate group theory learning so that it can be learned anywhere, engaging, and connected with school mathematics content. This research develops group theory textbooks using Podcast learning media that are connected to school mathematics and can improve critical thinking skills. This research aims to develop a group theory textbook with learning podcasts that relate to school mathematics and critical thinking that are valid, practical, and effective. The development model of this research uses the model developed by Borg and Gall. This study used Borg and Gall's steps in steps 1-4, which consisted of research analysis and data collection, planning, development of initial product forms, and product and implementation of tests. Future research using all the steps at Borg and Gall's. This research was conducted at a private university in Central Java with a limited test on fifth-semester students in the Group Theory course. The product produced in this research is a textbook with a learning podcast that readers can use wherever they are. The results showed that the media expert validation obtained a percentage of 86.7% in very good qualifications, while in the material validation, the percentage of 96% was in excellent qualifications. The practicality of the product is taken from the responses of students and lecturers who use the product through a questionnaire showing it is feasible to use. The effectiveness of this product is seen from the increase in critical thinking test results with the N-Gain test, which shows an N-Gain of 0.5625 while the control class obtains an N-Gain of 0.4851. This means that the N-Gain of the experimental class is greater than the control class in the moderate category and shows an increase. © 2024 American Institute of Physics Inc.. All rights reserved.
