The development of high order thinking skills (HOTS) wave test instrument for high school students

Abstract

The observation result of the latest seven-years score in Indonesia shows that the average national exam score of high school students especially in wave material have decreased from year to year. This is therefore learning media is needed in the form of practice question to increase student high order thinking skill. This research aims to develop high order thinking skill (HOTS) test instrument for high school student in wave material. The method used was the research and development method (Research and Development, R & D) by Borg & Gall. HOTS wave test instrument is developed in multiple-choice tests. The validity test result by expert obtained a value of 81.4% and can be categorized decent. While based on item validity test obtained 30 items validly question, the proportion of discrimination power (8 well and 22 good), the proportion of difficulty level (9 easy questions, 19 medium questions, and 2 difficult questions), and the reliability of the questions is 0.94. The type of HOTS wave test instrument is critical-thinking, problem-solving, creative thinking, and desicion-making. The HOTS wave test instrument has been adjusted based on criticism and suggestion from students that suits students needs. © 2023 Author(s).
