The production process at the printing business cannot be separated from the use of machinery and chemicals that have the potential for discomfort in the work environment and allows their impact on communities around the printing business. There are several components of comfort that are felt to be quite disturbing to the surrounding community from printing business activities. This study aims to determine how much influence exists in the community when there is a medium-scale enterprise located in a neighborhood where they live. This study uses a descriptive method using qualitative techniques. The research subjects are residents of Jalan Pandansari IV Semarang City whose residence is close to the printing business. Data collection techniques used are observation and documentation. Documentation is used to clarify and reveal data through images in real terms. The results of the research obtained are that the printing business in a densely populated settlement has positive and negative sides that affect the comfort of the surrounding community. Establishing a printing business in a densely populated settlement must use a permit from the government and residents, and think about the impact that will occur if the company already has many customers including traffic jams, prone to theft, noise from machines, stinging chemicals. Environmental management efforts are needed to reduce the noise intensity of the printing press by isolating noise sources and planting various vegetation and flower plants to reduce the pungent smell of chemicals. © 2023 Author(s).
