Excessive exposure to UV rays can cause many negative things to human health. To reduce exposure to UV rays we must wear clothes that cover our bodies. The type of material that is widely used by tropical residents is fabric that is considered more comfortable to protect the body, one of which is polyester fabric. In selecting fabrics, apart from the type of material, the colour of the fabric also needs to be considered because each colour has the ability to absorb sunlight with different abilities. Therefore, it is very important to know the absorption or protection power of Polyester fabrics with variations in thickness and color. This research used fabric with a thickness of 24s and 30s and a variation of seven colours. Data collection was carried out between 10:00 to 14:00 at three different times. The data taken is the UV intensity that has passed through the filter cloth and the intensity that has not been filtered. It was found that 24s polyester fabrics withstand UV exposure on average 4% higher than 30s fabrics. As for the colour variation, it was found that purple passed the most UV rays with an average percentage of 14.5% while the lowest was black with a percentage of 8.3%. From the results of the data obtained the thicker and denser the fabric shows the better resistance to UV rays, while the color that is able to withstand UV rays the best is black, while the worst is purple. © 2023 Author(s).
