High scientific literacy ability is an indicator of the success of education in a country because with the high literacy ability possessed by students, the better the ability of students to recognize the problems they face in their lives. The scientific literacy ability of Indonesian students based on PISA 2018 is still at a lower stage. It is because students are not familiar with scientific literacy-based questions. Therefore, it is necessary to develop scientific literacy test instruments. The research aims to (1) test the feasibility of the scientific literacy test instrument and (2) profile the scientific literacy ability of students on the scientific literacy test instrument. The research method uses a 4-D approach and development that has become 3-D, namely define, design, and development - data collection techniques with two-level literacy-based test instruments, response scales, and interviews. The test instrument is categorized as suitable for use based on validation by experts with a percentage of 86.94%. Based on the student response questionnaire, the reliability test was 0.77. The validity of the scientific literacy test instrument developed was 28 valid questions obtained from 30 questions. The reliability of the scientific literacy test instrument was obtained 0.741. The scientific literacy ability profile of students is 33.89% and is in the failure criteria. The students' scientific literacy skills based on scientific competence obtained 39.79% (less) on scientific issue competence and 31.33% (failed) on scientific. © 2023 Author(s).
