Analysis of student's mathematical problem-solving ability based on Polya in the topic of linear programming

Abstract

The aim of this study was to describe students' mathematical problem-solving abilities. This research is a qualitative descriptive study. The population in this study were all students of class XI SMA Negeri 26 Riau Islands academic year 2020/2021. The sample in this study were XI IPS 1. The technique of collecting data consisted of mathematical problem-solving ability test and documentation. The data were analyzed using descriptive. The results showed that students who had high problem-solving abilities were 2 students, students who had moderate abilities were 13 students, students who had low abilities were 6 students. 64% of students were able to solve problems at the stage of understanding the problem, 61% of students were able to devise a plan, 57% of students were able to carry out the plan, and 56% of students were able to look back. © 2023 Author(s).
