The effect of nanoencapsulation effervescent powder of jengkol peel (Pithecellobium jiringa) in the alloxan-induced diabetic mice

Abstract

Antidiabetic, in modern and traditional medication, is commonly used to cure diabetes along with lifestyle modification. The present study investigates the antidiabetic activity of nanoencapsulation of jengkol peel (Pithecellobium jiringa) effervescent powder. The nanoencapsulation process of jengkol peel extract was carried out by the ionic gelation method. Chitosan solution was made in concentrations of 0.2 and 1% by mixing 0.2 g of STPP into 100 mL of distilled water and the concentration of STPP of 0.1%. After making nanoparticles, coating material was added with a total solid of 20% (b/b). The particle size average was 668.7 nm, and the PI index value was 0.503. The effervescent powder of nanoencapsulation of jengkol peel extract was then tested in the body weight and blood glucose of alloxan induced-diabetic mice for 14 days. The administration of effervescent nanoencapsulation of jengkol peel extract and jengkol peel extract alone for 14 days has no potential effect in alloxan-induced diabetic mice. © 2023 Author(s).
