Abstract

This study aims to propose a green work engagement (Green-E) mechanism in higher education. This study involves the influence of green human resource management (Green-HR) practices on green work engagement (Green-E) and green innovative behavior (Green-IB). This study is important because it theoretically adds value to the literature on green innovative behavior and green work engagement in higher education. This research is essential because it enhances understanding of the mechanisms underlying the relationship between Green-HR and employees' green workplace behavior. The findings of this study will be useful for the management of higher education institutions, to ensure the sustainability and development of the institution's green brand image among employees and external parties. The population of this research is employees in universities. While the analytical tool used is Structural Equation Modeling (SEM). The results show that green human resource management can be a predictor of innovative green behavior. Furthermore, that also proved green work engagement to be an effective intervention mechanism to explain the relationship between green human resource management with innovative green behavior. © 2023 Author(s).
