Abstract

Electric bikes (e-bikes) are emerging as a cleaner, more efficient, and more comfortable transportation solution. However, challenges like limited range and battery recharging accessibility persist. A potential solution is a regenerative braking system, converting braking kinetic energy into electric energy stored in the battery. This study introduces an e-bike tailored with an electrical regenerative braking system. It provides assembly details and evaluates three aspects: regenerative mode, battery mode, and regenerative braking performance. Results confirm the e-bike's successful operation. The regenerative mode's voltage and current align with battery specs. Energy consumption increase matches battery mode mileage. In final testing, reverse voltage and current from regenerative braking meet battery specs. Despite slight differences, the average voltage among the three speeds does not significantly contrast with the average current. As speed rises, the average current follows. This underscores regenerative braking's compliance with specifications and its non-harmful impact on the battery's lifespan. © 2023 IEEE.
