Many hoax posts circulated on social media in cyberspace. Hoaxes are often negatively aimed at provoking people who read them. This article aims to describe This article aims to describe the negative impact of hoaxes in cyberspace and to encourage the role of universities in preventing students from the adverse consequences of hoax news. Students can be affected and participate in spreading hoaxes in cyberspace. A person who spreads hoaxes in cyberspace can be charged with violations of Law No. 11 of 2008. Therefore, universities can play an important role in preventing the spread of hoaxes through increasing students' digital literacy in the use of social media in cyberspace. The improvement of digital literacy can be done by requiring taking courses on digital literacy, holding seminars, or socializing about the dangers of hoaxes to students. © 2022 American Institute of Physics Inc..
