Mathematical creative thinking ability in solving social arithmetic problems in terms of the adversity quotient

Abstract

This study aimed to analyze students' creative thinking skills in solving problems related to social arithmetic material. This research is a qualitative descriptive study that describes the ability to analyze creative thinking in terms of the Adversity Quotient. This study used data collection techniques through tests of mathematical creative thinking skills, adversity quotient questionnaires, interviews, and documentation during the activity. The subjects of this study were seventh-grade students who had previously received material on social arithmetic-data analysis by reducing data, presenting data, and levers. Based on the Adversity Quotient questionnaire, students into Climber, Quitter, and Camper types. Based on the research results, Climber-Type students can solve creative thinking skills questions according to the indicators of fluency, Flexibility, Originality, and Elaboration. Camper-Type students still have difficulty in applying flexibility. Quitter-Type students still have problems in mathematical creative thinking skills, which can be seen from the answers that do not meet the indicators of fluency, Flexibility, Originality, and Elaboration. Based on the analysis of the three types, we concluded that the lack of students' ability to face a challenge could affect creative mathematical thinking. © 2022 Author(s).
