Green synthesis of magnetite nanoparticles using peel extract of jengkol (Archidendron pauciflorum) for methylene blue adsorption from aqueous media

Abstract

Synthesis of magnetite nanoparticles using jengkol peel extract has been carried out and applied to methylene blue (MB) adsorbent. Characterization of the synthesized material using FTIR, XRD, PSA, and VSM. In this study, the effect of pH adsorption of MB onto magnetite synthesized using JPE (JMNPs), adsorption kinetics, and isotherms were studied to understand the interaction mechanism between MB and JMNPs and their adsorption capacity. The results showed that the particle size of the formed JMNPs was in the range of 250–450 nm. The saturation magnetization MNPs, JMNPs (5 mL of JPE), and JMPNS (15 mL of JPE) are 68.37, 25.6, and 12.9 emu/g, respectively. The adsorption study showed that the media pH affected the adsorption of MB onto JMNPs. The optimum adsorption of MB onto JMNPs (5 mL of JPE) and JMPNS (15 mL of JPE) were found at pH 8 and 6, respectively. Adsorption kinetics and adsorption isotherm of MB onto JMNPs followed Ho's pseudo-second-order kinetic and Freundlich isotherm model, respectively. © 2022 Elsevier B.V.
