Abstract

Isobaric vapor-liquid equilibrium (VLE) data for binary mixtures of acetone + isobutanol have been measured at 101.325 kPa. The isobaric VLE data were measured through the measurements of boiling point temperature by using modified Othmer recirculation still. In this investigated binary system, no azeotropic point was exhibited. The Wilson, non-random two-liquid (NRTL) and universal quasi-chemical (UNIQUAC) activity coefficient models were applied to correlate the experimental VLE data. Based on the correlation results, the experimental data were in good agreement with those models. The binary interaction parameters obtained in this work could be applied as vapor-liquid equilibrium data in the optimization of the bioethanol purification process by using a distillation column. © 2020 Author(s).
