Abstract

The purpose of the research activity is to analyze the literacy that has been used for early childhood learning in Early-Childhood Education (ECE) institutions and develop thematic electronic smart books that can be used as stimulation in learning to improve children's literacy. The method in this research is research and development by adopting the Thiagarajan development model. Institutions that were targeted by the research were TK Pertiwi 45, Semarang City and TK Pembina, Central Java Province. The result obtained from the results of this study is an electronic smart book developed which is declared highly valid by media experts (89%) and by material experts (82.50%). The level of practicality is seen from the indicator of feasibility with a score of 94.71% which means it is practical to use. The level of effectiveness can be seen from the improvement in the student's learning achievement with the gain score for the TK Pertiwi 45 is 0.7 (moderate) and for the TK Pembina in Central Java Province is 0.6 (moderate). Seen from the teacher's response, the score shown was 97.64% (very good). Thus, it can be concluded that the development of thematic-based electronic smart books is valid, practical and effective. © 2019 IEEE.
