Abstract

Mathematical reasoning ability is closely related to logical, analytical, and critical thinking. One can draw conclusions and decisions related to everyday life through mathematical reasoning ability. This mathematical ability is one of the determinants of the successful student learning process. For students to accept mathematics lessons well, they must have additional learning motivation or instill learning motivation in students when studying mathematics. However, it is not uncommon for most students to consider mathematics a difficult lesson to understand. One of the causes is that student's motivation to learn and interest in mathematics are still in the low category. This research aims to determine the effectiveness of using app inventor media in problem-based learning based on mathematical reasoning ability and learning motivation. The method and design used are quantitative and actual experimental design. The sampling technique used was simple random sampling. The results showed that: (1) the mathematical reasoning ability of students who use media assisted by App Inventor in program-based learning reaches learning completeness; (2) the mathematical reasoning ability of students who use media assisted by App Inventor in problem-based learning is better than the mathematical reasoning ability of students who do not use media assisted by App Inventor in problem-based learning; (3) the learning motivation score of students who use media assisted by App Inventor in problem-based learning is better than the learning motivation score of students who do not use media assisted by App Inventor in problem-based learning. In this study, App Inventor-assisted media effectively affects students' mathematical reasoning ability and learning motivation. © 2025 Author(s).
