Analysis of students' mathematical critical thinking ability through project-based learning with SAVI approach

Abstract

Critical thinking refers to the capacity to think logically and systematically in order to understand how different concepts or facts are connected to each other. Critical thinking is an intellectual activity in making logical decisions with the intention of solving problems. Project-based learning using SAVI approach is the used learning model. This study aims to analyze the mathematical critical thinking ability through Project-based Learning with SAVI approach. The indicators used are interpretation, analysis, evaluation, and inference. Fifteen seventh-grade students from SMPIQu Al-Bahjah Cirebon are the research subjects for this qualitative study. According to the findings, the majority of students fall into the category of having extremely high critical thinking abilities. Students with exceptionally high and high mathematical critical thinking abilities are those who fit the four indicators. Students who have very high and high mathematical critical thinking abilities can understand problems well, analyze problems, evaluate problems, and provide appropriate conclusions. Students with three indicators are identified as having medium mathematical critical thinking abilities. On this criterion, students can understand the problem, students are able to analyze and evaluate the problem even though there are still errors in calculations, and provide conclusions even though they are not correct. Only two of the mathematical critical thinking abilities indicators, namely interpretation and analysis can be met by students with extremely low mathematical critical thinking abilities. On this criterion, students are able to understand and analyze problem, but not able to evaluate and provide appropriate conclusions. © 2025 Author(s).
